The Staffordshire Urology clinic now offers immediate PSA tests to selected patients. The test uses the PSAwatch™ system and is the first rapid, quantitative point-of-care PSA test using whole blood. This system works with whole blood from a venous puncture or finger-prick, and measures PSA to one decimal place in the clinically significant range (0.5 – 25µg/l). Using PSAwatch allows a physician or nurse to provide their patients with a low cost PSA reading during an office or clinic visit, with no waiting.

Mr Lyndon Gommersall and Mr Christopher Luscombe attended the 10th Annual Uro-oncology Symposium at Birmingham University Medical School on 11th September 2013. This meeting reviewed the current treatment and research in Prostate Cancer, Bladder Cancer, Testis Cancer and Renal Cancer.

Since go live in late 2011, the Staffordshire Urology Clinic website has had almost 9,500 unique visitors and over 25,000 page views. The most commonly viewed page is the homepage, but local anaesthetic bladder botox, blood in the urine and kidney stones are also very popular.

British Association of Urological Surgeons – Manchester 2013

Each of our urology surgical consutlants attended this important national conference in Manchester last week. Encompassing all aspects of contemporary urological care it ensures that our specialists are up to date with the latest in the investigation treatment and management of our patients.

The British Association of Urological Surgeons has reported 2012 national results from data collected about radical prostatectomy for the treatment of prostate cancer. In this report, which aims to capture as many operations performed in the UK as possible, Mr Luscombe was within the top 20% of highest volume surgeons in the UK. His positive margin rate (which may mean cancer is not totally removed) was only 14% compared to a national average of just over 26%.
